The Madden NFL 10 game is enjoyable as well as more realistic in certain aspects. True to its realistic nature, a mix of good and bad has been the troubling factor for the entire series. The ball passing is very realistic as well, while the Pro-Tak adds is the glamor feature. The well featured streamlined menu makes way for easy navigation and another excellent feature is the online franchise. Though besides these, the AI defense is inconsistent and needs more attention and so is the case in the down-field run blocking. Reducing the referee cut scenes would have made it better. Most of all, the commentary is bad and needs huge improvement.
In both the offline and online versions, the game tweaks are very obvious. Like advertised the Pro-Tak looks very realistic. It’s interesting to watch the players struggle to pull down the ball carrier which resembles real game. And the game avoids too many breakaways and because of this it seems to have a poor down-field blocking form. All these add up to the setbacks and though it does happen similarly in the real NFL, here it happens more often and makes it very unreasonable.
Also, the AI controlled defenses are a huge setback and their inconsistency keeps nagging every now and then. In major games, it’s easy to find that the AI analysis on each move made and then plans strategically based on this and pulls you down. But despite all this, the passing game is realistic here.
The fatigue factor plays a better role in this version. It helps to bring down the star player by constantly aiming the balls at him. The system pulls the player out while the fatigue factor shoots up. But the game punishes those with repetitive play calling with injuries. But the way the player models are presented are more refined.
Also here the fatigue plays a higher role than in previous versions. This helps to make the star player go down by constantly focusing your balls at him. Unfortunately this game calls for punishment in cases of repetitive play calling with injuries. The look of the game is more improved and refined with finer details in terms of player models such as patches, and the presentation elements that add to the TV broadcast feel.
Like said previously, the commentary part is the worst in the game. Though commentator Chris Collinsworth has taken efforts to do a good job, his play by play guy Tom Hammond is bad. He’s spoiled the interesting aspect of any commentary and made it bland.
It’s nice to know that the EA has taken great care to go down to the fundamentals of the game with Madden NFL 10 and made some constructive changes with regard to that. While the passing game is much more refined here, the running game is good compared to other versions. The Offline franchises and the Pro-Tak are reason enough for anyone to get involved in this year. ’s game. Also, the new co-option feature which lets two people to play on the same system is another added feature. The camera and its positioning need more improvement. Also, the inconsistencies on the AI defense mechanism need to be taken care of. Irrespective of these setbacks, the game is still a hit and with just these minor changes it would be the best game ever played.
